The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Oakwood Police, Kettering Police, Sinclair Community College Police, Huber Heights Police, University of Dayton Police and Moraine Police were among departments that showed up to help.
“A lot of members of the Dayton Police Department have received communications from other law enforcement agencies around here, our federal partners and also community members,” Interim Director and Chief of the Dayton Police Matt Carper said Wednesday.
“We certainly appreciate that support. I think the vast majority of the members of the Dayton community know that their officers are out there putting themselves in harm’s way, serving the public and keeping them safe,” he said.
Holloway was shot at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Ingram Street while investigating a counterfeiting case. He made contact with 39-year-old Antwyane Deon Lowe, who was the suspect, and after a brief confrontation Lowe shot Holloway in the head.
“The officer fell to the ground and immediately returned fire with five rounds, striking the suspect multiple times,” Carper said. “Despite his injuries, the officer was able to effectively request assistance for himself and the wounded suspect. The officer also provided for the safety of witnesses and bystanders by directing them to a place of safety.”
Holloway was taken to Miami Valley by a fellow officer and was listed in stable condition. Soon after the officer arrived to the hospital, many emergency responders were seen throughout the night outside the hospital.
Carper said he appreciated the support shown by the neighboring agencies and that they were part of a law enforcement family.
On top of the support shown outside the hospital, social media was flooded with well-wishers who said they were praying for the officer and the Dayton Police Department.
“(The Kettering Police Department) extends our thoughts and prayers to the injured Dayton police officer, and to all of our brothers and sisters at the Dayton Police Department,” the department said in a Facebook post.
